Haute on the Ranch: Why Tecovas Is Our Next Boot Brand

In western fashion, there are generally four pieces you can point to as the foundation of an outfit: denim, turquoise, your cowboy hat, and boots. Each staple plays an important role in inspiring your look or completing it.

Savannah Sevens is always on the hunt to expand these core offerings so you have classic building blocks that will serve you for years. Quickly becoming a footwear mainstay in the Lone Star State and most recently featured in Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” music video, fresh boot brand Tecovas has caught our attention and we’re excited to announce seven modern styles are being added to our lineup!

If you’re not familiar with Tecovas, let us introduce you to its founder, unveil the boot designs, and explain why these kicks are the perfect addition to the Savannah 7s style.

Who is Tecovas?

Paul Hedrick was living and working in Connecticut when he got the idea for his boot brand Tecovas. With a degree from Harvard and a career in management consulting, the correlation between his life in New England and creating one of the hottest western footwear companies might, at first, be hard to grasp.

The name “Tecovas” is undeniably Texan – it comes from a geological formation located near Amarillo in the Palo Duro Canyon. Paul actually grew up in Dallas and leaned on his love of Texas as well as childhood memories riding horses in Colorado and Montana for inspiration. He says while the majority of men were sporting penny loafers up north, he took it as a badge of honor to walk into a meeting with his cowboy boots on.

In 2015, Paul started Tecovas with the intent of respecting the tradition of generational bootmaking – providing superior quality – while bringing a fresh and modern perspective to the design. He also wanted to be mindful of price point. What began as a modest operation out of Paul’s trunk at farmers markets and fairs has now grown into a trusted boot company with name recognition throughout Texas and beyond.

Why Tecovas?

Each Tecovas boot is designed in Austin, Texas at the company headquarters and is handmade in León, Mexico, home to the heritage of this artform. The foundation of the boot starts with a tri-layer insole, built for lifelong structure and support. The leather used is hand selected, premium quality and responsibly sourced. By the time each boot has completed the manufacturing process, it has gone through more than 200 steps!

“Our goal is to provide customers with an exceptional shopping experience they can’t get anywhere else and part of that experience is having access to pieces with a story, with heritage quality, and with craftsmanship that will last,” said Ryley Wimer, Savannah 7s founder. “Tecovas is an exciting emerging brand that meets our level of western footwear expectations and we couldn’t be more proud to offer these new styles. Customers are going to have so much fun building looks with these beautiful boots!”

Highlights of the Collection

From classic cream to rich cafe brown; traditional flame stitching to a horseshoe inlay; and 9” ankle shorties to the ultra high 17” shaft, the assortment of Tecovas boots we’ve selected for our collection meet individual preferences, current trends, and the overall western aesthetic.

Here are the highlights of our seven new styles:

The Jolene {offered in Seafoam}: Features a whimsical horseshoe inlay, which brings both a decorative element as well as a nod to tradition. Overall, this shorter shafted boot has a retro feel and will be so fun to wear! 0 toe style.

The Loretta {offered in Cream}: With a 17” shaft, this boot is an absolute showstopper. Its neutral tone provides an easy canvas from which to build your fit. Snip toe style.

The Abby {offered in Driftwood & Sagebrush}: Between its sleek 17” shaft and bold western flame stitch, every step you take will be noticed. 0 toe style.

The Annie {offered in Cafe & Scotch}: One of Tecovas’ best-selling designs, this 14” shafted boot is as classic as it gets. It features a deep scallop at the top for a comfortable, flattering fit. Snip toe style.

The Maggie {offered in Teal}: A hybrid rubber/leather sole provides grip; the cushioned footbed is removable; and the pitched riding heel has a spur ledge. Combined with its modern shape and shade, this is a boot you can ride and roam in. Square toe style.
