Haute on the Ranch: Wearing Red, White & Blue Beyond the Fourth
50 stars. 13 stripes. 3 colors. When you see the iconic American flag, one of the first things you probably think of is Independence Day. In honor of our nation’s birthday, we wear our country’s colors and wave Old Glory to celebrate the pride we feel for living in the United States.
Once the fireworks have been set off though, and the barbecue flame has burnt out, does your red, white and blue get pushed to the back of the closet for next year? Savannah Sevens is here to tell you, keep it accessible at all times! Not only does your American pride never go out of season, it’s also built into the tradition of western culture and fashion.
In this edition of the Haute on the Ranch blog, Savannah 7s wants to inspire you to style with red, white and blue well beyond the Fourth of July. We have created two different looks in three fashion genres to give you ideas on how to keep incorporating touches of classic Americana into your fits. This will maximize the wearability of your patriotic purchases; effortlessly integrate elements of timeless style; and set you up for fall trends, which are showing a continued popularity in USA-themed attire.
New England Prep
Harbors lined with boats. Bonfires on the beach. Shingle-sided Cape Cod homes. This is what you think of when you visit a New England seaside community like Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket. Life is slower, days are spent on or near the water, and there is an overall feeling of small town American charm.
When it comes to fashion, the fabrics, colors and silhouettes mirror that same classic, relaxed vibe. Cotton and linen are common textiles. Soft neutrals and varying blues are worn to reflect the nautical atmosphere. And oftentimes, with a chilly ocean breeze, you’ll see long sleeves or layers.
We’ve chosen a USA knit in light navy and an oversized stripe linen button up as the foundation of our New England Prep style. Both can be worn for the 4th as well as on a beach trip and when you want to dress in an elevated casual way. Add denim and rich leather accessories to complete your look.
American Heritage
One of the most well-known designers to do American Heritage fashion right is Ralph Lauren. His style is steeped in red, white and blue. He incorporates traditional and rugged elements of the west with classic, clean lines and silhouettes of American sportswear.
Western designer, the late Tasha Polizzi, was a protégé of Ralph Lauren’s, acting as his chief women’s designer for years. She brought similar timeless Americana components to her style when she established her own brand.
Inspired by these designers, we chose the red knit sleeveless top and denim dress – pieces that could be worn for the Fourth of July – and outfitted them in an updated way to reflect and emphasize the role American Heritage plays in western fashion.
Cosmopolitan Chic
Whether you’re actually hitting the big city streets or just going out in your local downtown, another way to integrate American-inspired pieces into your personal style is through fashion forward concepts.
Cosmopolitan Chic is wearing unique and on-trend silhouettes often first seen on the runway, at major markets or in an urban area and styling it in a polished and modern way.
One of the biggest trends of the summer is tie-front tops. We selected this fresh, airy white piece that would work well on the Fourth of July as well as add a bit of feminine flirtation to any other fit. Styled with our newest jean that sports the ever popular wide cuff, this look is perfect for any summer day of the week. For the second look, this sexy pop of red has Independence Day party written all over it; however the interesting weave of the fabric and jagged pattern of the hemline give it a bold, cosmopolitan vibe. Add stackable gold necklaces for a youthful and street-chic look, plus fringe to bring in a western element.
Create your own version of these three fashion styles with our Americana Collection, filled with capsule red, white and blue pieces that will bring versatility, timelessness and American pride to your wardrobe.
