Haute on the Ranch: 2024 Fall Denim Guide

You and your blue jeans. It’s hard to find a better fashionable duo. Denim is the one thing in your closet guaranteed to go with just about any look; certain to always make you feel comfortable; and proven to forever be in style.

When you comb through your clothing, it’s quite possible denim dominates the rest of your wardrobe. Don’t worry, us too! With the changing of the season, now is a good time to reassess your collection and decide what styles should stay in top rotation, which ones can filter to the bottom of the pile {for now}, and where you need to fill in a pair or two!

Let Savannah Sevens help you curate your very own capsule style with our 2024 Fall Denim Guide. After visiting several markets this year and researching fashion forecasts, we’re excited to share with you the current blue jean trends – fit, wash, and details – plus how you can incorporate these “denim dos” into your everyday wardrobe.

The trend of wide leg denim has been around for several seasons now and this fall, it’s going nowhere fast. If you're a member of the wide leg bandwagon, rejoice! One of your favorite fits will continue to be a popular choice well into 2025. Still a little hesitant in going all-in on this spacious style? You can absolutely rock a wide leg, and here’s why!

There is a range in leg openings when it comes to this type of denim. You can always start small with something like a trouser jean, where it gives the appearance of a wider opening because of its relaxed fit while staying streamlined and polished. Then, you can slowly venture into wider width territory as you become more comfortable.

Wide leg jeans also bring all the comfort. You can choose to size up for a more baggy, street chic look or stay at your normal size for a trendy and tailored fit. Either way, the roominess around your legs will give you an easy going feeling all day long.

When we tell you dark wash denim is in for fall, we feel like your response might be a bit like Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada saying, “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” Understandable, but hear us out.

Not only is there a spectrum of dark washes you can wear, from medium dark to indigo, but also unique features like pocket details and exposed buttons to set each pair apart. You can find dark wash denim in many different fits, like a trouser or wide leg, so you can change up your looks. And the richness of the deep blue hue can always be counted on to dress up your outfit, giving it subtle sophistication.

Dark jeans will most likely always be included in each yearly fall fashion forecast, which is exciting to know your investment in this classic and timeless “denim do” is a smart one. But don’t forget to have a little fun by trying new fits and styles.

A new denim feature that has gained a lot of attention and accolades is the pintuck detail. A seam that is gathered into a pleated or folded ridge and sewn down the center of each leg, the pintuck is a popular design element for good reason.

Running the length of the jean, a pintuck can elongate your legs, providing the appearance of more height and a slimmer frame. The pintuck also gives a tailored touch. It’s a streamlining effect, which will set a chic and polished tone for the whole fit.

If you have ever wanted to step outside your blue jean box and try something new, now is the time! This fall, denim with standout details is a major trend and there are so many ways to participate.

If you want to take a classic jean and only turn it up a notch, try experimenting with a trouser hemline. The thickness of a trouser jean provides a delicate yet effective contrast from a typical 3/8-inch hem.

Also play with pocket shapes. From porkchop to envelope, a change in the pocket silhouette can provide enough difference from a typical 5-pocket jean to transform your style. Just be mindful that pocket shapes can have an effect on the fit of the denim, accentuating certain areas of your hips or backside.

Additional ways to try out this “denim do” is carrying your summer jeans into fall – wearing light wash denim with darker, rich tones on top; trying colored denim, such as neutral cream or black, or fall tones like cranberry, plum or forest; and finally venturing into two-toned denim, which can be as simple as a variation in the whisker washing or even an intentional patchwork design.

Have you ever had jeans that were too long and there was no time for an alteration, so rolling or cuffing your denim was the automatic solution? This simple trick is one of fall’s biggest trends and we are all about it.

Adding a wide cuff to your denim no matter the fit instantly makes a statement. You are giving the denim an added detail, which changes up your look. There is a sporty element to it – cowgirls have been cuffing their denim, especially when riding, for years. It can complete a cool and casual vibe when the cuff makes the denim cropped, revealing a fun sneaker. And it provides balance and composure when you want to dress up your denim.

For a little something extra, have your denim starched before cuffing. The structured crease down the front combined with the uniform cuff  displays dignified poise, attention to detail, and an intentional put-together look.
