Haute On The Ranch: 2019 {NFR} Style Experience!
Well friends, as luck would have it, we won’t be making the trek to Sin City in December for rodeo’s biggest and BEST ten rounds this year. But that doesn’t mean we won’t be watching and cheering on the baddest cowboys and cowgirls in town each night... and maybe wishing (just a little) that we were there in person, donning our favorite western fashion, and spending time with the coolest fans in the country!
Since that won’t be the case, though, Ryley generously poured her time and energy into putting together all the looks she’d pack in her very own suitcase if a trip to Vegas were in order--complete with details on how the looks came together and how you can create something similar (or just buy the whole dang outfit like most of us do when she’s done styling). ;)
This year we focused the styles around three distinct thoughts as we organized the looks: casual, in-between and dressy OR Vegas Days, Around the Clock (no change necessary) and Vegas Nights. We also {conveniently} created three shopping collections to go with them.
If you follow along with our Stories on Instagram, we posted a poll a month or so back asking for trends you’d like to see more styling on for the NFR. The top picks were: Trousers, Leopard and Pearl Snaps--so here you go!
TROUSERS
Casual: Look #1 The Bonnie Trouser Jean
https://savannahsevens.com/collections/bottoms/products/the-bonnie-trouser-jean
- The Bonnie Trouser Jean has a lighter wash that gives a more casual feel, yet can still be dressed up or down.
- Choosing a top that shows off the waistline gives Trouser Styles a very slimming look. I always like to look at the leg width of a jean when deciding on the style of top. For example, skinny jeans are going to pair well with flowier and or longer tops. This gives good balance of the bottoms being slim/snug while the top is the looser piece. You want to do the opposite then with a trouser. Avoid oversized tops that don't have a narrowing hemline and long outerwear like dusters or chunkier sweaters that don't show off the narrowness of your waist. You chance both the wide leg of the jean and a larger top making you look bulky.
- A body suit like The Caysen provides this effect but yet is a little bit relaxed above the waistband for a more forgiving fit.
- Take this look from day casual with a leather choker, and change it out for a mini brands neck scarf tied off to the side for a dressed up evening look.
- The Mesa Azul handbag ties together all the rich earth tones of this look so well, and it's lightweightness & size make it perfect for holding all your Cowboy Christmas shopping loot. Then in the evening leave the bag in your room and just take out of your bag The Bovine phone wallet with wrist strap (coming 11.14 VIP New Arrivals) for the Rodeo Performance.
In-Between: Look #2 The Kaycee Trouser Jean
https://savannahsevens.com/collections/bottoms/products/the-kayce-trouser-jean
- The brighter hand sanding and pretty white pocket stitching of The Kaycee Trouser Jean gives enough contrast to make it and The Laredo navy top a perfect Duo.
- I chose The Dixon {blanco} bootie to tie in with the white pocket stitching and give some great contrast with the top.
- The cool tones of this look make sterling silver jewelry the go-to accessory.
- For a night out on the town The Flat Rock clutch with its hidden (in the leather handle) magnetic closure is secure and is easy to get into. Keep the shoulder strap inside and handy for some hands free dancing & cold drink holdin'!
Dressy: Look #3 The McIntyre Trouser Jean
https://savannahsevens.com/collections/ariat-denim/products/the-mcintyre-trouser-jean
- The McIntyre Trouser Jean is a go-to for creating a very classy look. The darker wash and gold stitching give you so many ways to style it.
- Black is an easy decision when working to achieve a dressy look with denim. The Brekyn leopard top with its puff shoulders is another very hot trend that you don't want to miss.
- Again, to create a slimming effect at the waistline, I would suggest front tucking or completely tucking in this top. The relaxed bodice of this top gives comfortable room to do this.
- Next I chose The Dixon {black} bootie knowing it would be the piece to help tie natural leather accessories into the look. The golden cognac leather sole and accent stitching provide a great contrast and western touch.
- From there I would choose a natural or cognac belt to peek out from the front center tuck and a coordinating leather/cowhide wristlet.
- The badlands {sand hills} hat completes the head to toe pops of brown & black!
- And silver jewelry will finish off this classy look without making it too busy.
LEOPARD
Casual: Look #4 The Boise {distressed leopard tee}
(in Sunday Night's New Arrivals) https://m.facebook.com/groups/634720010201730/
- The Boise leopard tee is a wider oversized tee that gives all the fabric you need to front tuck, side tuck or side knot.
- I see this as a perfect traveling (well maybe traveling out to Vegas, cause you can bet I'll be in a ball cap and hoodie on the way home!) or shopping look.
- Because of the dark color of the tee and working to create a casual look, I chose a light destroyed denim.
- From there I picked out The Fenix bootie for it's variation in leather color and rustic details.
- Add in some oversized turquoise earrings and statement turquoise rings for a little edginess.
- Top it off with the perfect Badlands {sand hills} hat, messy side braid and The El Paso Weekender bag, and you're Vegas ready!
In-Between: Look #5 The Talcott {leopard blazer jacket}
(in sunday night new arrivals) . https://m.facebook.com/groups/634720010201730/
- The Talcott blazer jacket is SO unique and SO pretty on! I know it looks a little chunky and oversized ~ but that's a lot of what makes it so great!
- Pair with a simple front tucked white tank, like The Moran, and roll the cuffs to bring the wider sleeves down to a narrower point.
- I would suggest a skinny or boyfriend cut jean. This will make your south half look tinier with the wider setting bodice of the jacket.
- I like the pop of color The Dixon {sangria} bootie gives the look.
- I then kept color out of the jewelry so as to not make things too busy. I chose the El Reno Earrings to match the oversizeness of the jacket.
- This is a great look to wear from sun up to....well, sun up! It's Vegas baby!!
Dressy: Look #6 The Atwood {ruffle hem leopard dress}
https://savannahsevens.com/collections/vegas-nights-nfr-looks/products/the-atwood
- The Atwood dress is my favorite dress of the season! Not only does it have a pretty & unique leopard pattern to it, the fit and swing is amazing!
- The matching double tie belt allows for you to pull up the fabric above it slightly (as if you were going to partially untuck a shirt). This ads even more dimension and shape to the fit.
- Then there's the swing of that ruffle hem! The weight of the ruffle makes it kick out and hang in such a gorgeous way.
- A leopard dress or jumpsuit can be hard to add in a lot of accessories to make it western, at the chance of making it too busy.
- I first chose the footwear before any other accessory. The Dixon {black} bootie does a great job of keeping it dressy and tying in the golden tan and black of the dress.
- Next I selected The Badlands {sand hills} hat to feel I have completed the effort of truly making it feel like a western look.
- When there is a busy or larger print, I suggest keeping the jewelry smaller and more subtle, so as to not compete with everything else.
- I chose a touch of turquoise and and primarily sterling silver pieces.
PEARL SNAPS
Casual: Look #7 The Mesa {retro plaid pearl snap}
https://savannahsevens.com/products/the-mesa-1
- The Mesa pearl snap is a great go-to for a day of shopping, after a long night, or for the trip home.
- Keep snapped and untucked or leave open and pair with a side knotted or side tucked basic - The Rock Springs tank in this case.
- Unsnap and roll the cuffs back for an added casual touch.
- Cuff a pair of Ariat bootcut jeans and slip on the comfiest new Ryder {burlap leopard} shoe for a long day of walking.
- Throw last night's hair in a side braid an a pair of hoops and you are set!
In-Between: Look #8 The Newnan {cotton slub pearl snap}
https://savannahsevens.com/products/the-newnan
- The Newnan cotton slub retro pearl snap is that perfect piece to style as an all day and night look!
- I first chose The Tailgate {peacock green} boot to keep that retro look going.
- Next I chose an Ariat straight leg {Spoiler! ~ this new style will be available in The 11.14 VIP New Arrivals}. I love a super high cuff on a straight leg. For an added classy touch - crease or starch them too. Love how styling a straight leg like this shows more of the boot!
- I kept the rest of the accessories simple with The Badlands {sand hills} hat, Bronc Earrings and The Red Lodge Belt. Keep the buckle basic, as is, or trade it out for a small vintage rodeo buckle (Tip: you can find really cool - and cheap - ones on Ebay!)
Dressy: Look #9 The Lennox {denim pearl snap}
https://savannahsevens.com/products/the-lennox-1
- The Bucklin denim pearl snap. You need this shirt in your life. I don't care if it's to go work calves on the ranch, or for a Saturday night at the NFR, you need her!
- The distressed wash and texture make it the best damn denim pearl snap I've ever seen. All the Marlboro man feels I'm tellin' ya!
- To dress her up, tuck it in a higher waist retro skirt (or dressy shorts) like The Bucklin skirt.
- I like to un-snap just one button on the cuffs and flip back the edge of the cuff - just to give it a little something different and it will better show off your bracelets.
- Dressy necklaces with a pearl snap can be tough. I like a shorter necklace worn under or inside the collar. Here I took a longer turquoise and leather necklace, the Ranchero Necklace, and just tied it up to the length that sets best with the shirt.
- Since the necklace is a little more hidden and not a loud statement, I chose the edgy, oversized, teardrop Gallup Earrings.
- The Fenix bootie matches the rusticness of the shirt, but still keeps it dressy enough.
- And The Bovine phone wallet (coming in the 11.14 VIP New Arrivals) is the perfect finishing touch for all the night out must haves!
